Banaue Rice Terraces

Banaue Rice Terraces

These ancient terraces are 2,000-years old, and were carved into the mountains of Ifugao in the Philippines by ancestors of the Batad indigenous people. Such rice terraces are commonly referred to by Filipinos as the "Eighth Wonder of the World".

It is believed that the terraces were built mostly by hand, with minimal equipment used. They are located about 1,500 meters (or 5,000 feet) above sea level and cover more than 10,000 square kilometers
