Philippine Beaches You’ll Fall in Love with

Philippine Beaches You’ll Fall in Love with

Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte

It may be remote in the far north, but Pagudpud is totally worth the long trip. You’ll love the beaches that can be compared to the Hawaii in terms of the strong winds and waves

Boracay, Aklan

Boracay is undoubtedly the most popular beach destination in the Philippines. And there are reasons for that. Apart from its ivory-white sands, turquoise waters, and gorgeous views, the hotels and resorts here are well-developed.

El Nido, Palawan

In El Nido, you’ll have your white sand and glorious blue waters. But what’s really notable is the peace and tranquility it can give you. So if that’s your kind of escape, this is your place. And apart from that, the wildlife in Palawan is awesome

Philippines Airlines start flying non-stop from Manila, Philippines to London, England on November 4, 2013. The airline has not flown non-stop to Europe in more than 15 years, and is already selling round-trip tickets at an introductory economy rate of $1,052 USD. Business class tickets start at $2,900 USD.

Reportedly, they will operate five flights a week to London Heathrow airport, and will use their new twin-engine 370-seat Boeing 777-300ER aircraft for the route. The flight will only take 12.5 hours - about the same time it takes to fly non-stop from Manila to Los Angeles, California.

The new flight route is expected to add a huge boost to the country's tourism, as more than 33% of the 349,000 European visitors traveling to the Philippines last year were from the UK. The airline is also planning to soon add non-stop flights to Rome, Amsterdam, and Paris.

Is Manila the world's worst airport?

The biggest airport in the Philippines has been named the world's worst for the second year running .
Manila Airport has been voted the world's worst by the users of a travel website for the second year running.

The poll, carried out by the Guide to Sleeping at Airports website (sleepinginairports.net), named Manila's Terminal 1 the very worst, with ratings based on "comfort, convenience, cleanliness and customer service".Reviewers highlighted "dilapidated facilities", "dishonest" airport workers - particularly taxi drivers - long waiting times and "rude" staff.
Officials at the airport, the largest in The Philippines, dismissed the result of the survey, insisting that it had improved in recent years.

Sagada

Sagada is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the Philippines especially for those who love trekking, spelunking, rappelling, and rock climbing.

Location : Sagada is a 5th class municipality of Mountain Province. Located 275 kilometers north of Manila, and is approximately a 12- to 14-hour drive from there. It is 140 kilometers from Baguio and is located right next to the provincial capital of Bontoc.

The Mountain Province’s climate is definitely cold because of its high location. Crops that thrive only in cold climates can be found here such as cabbages, tomatoes, green pepper, potatoes, carrots, beans and other fruits and vegetables.

The best time to visit Sagada is during the dry months of December to May, so as not to make trekking difficult. However, climate in Sagada is very cold all year round, more so during the rainy season.

Best natural spots in the Philippines

Best natural spots in the Philippines

A month’s visit won’t be enough to enjoy all its wonders, so plan your stay wisely. Here are some of my favorites:

1. Puerto Princesa

This underground river was recently declared by UNESCO as one of the world’s natural wonders“Puerto-Princesa Subterranean River National Park“ Aside from admiring the majestic caves, you’ll never run out of exciting activities in Puerto Princesa: rafting, kayaking, hiking, camping, and zip-lining, among others.

2. Boracay Island

Boracay is not only one of the country’s claim-to-fame, but also the center for fun at the beach. Celebrities flock to the island all season not only for the white sand, turquoise waters, and sun-bathing, but also for its world-class night clubs and hotels.

3. Hundred Islands

Everything you can do on the said destinations, you can also do in the Hundred Islands. It’s literally composed of over a hundred islands, so you won’t run out of activities to choose from. In case you get bored, just hop to other islands with a kayak or simply swim. An entire day is not enough to explore all the islands, so plan your visit to the most popular ones. My favorite is the Marcos cave filled with bats. Hike your way into the cave’s mouth, and dive from an 10-meter rock to get out.

4. Taal Volcano

When you’re in Manila, the smallest volcano in the world is just three to four hours away. After taking pictures or listening to geological discussions, you can fly kites, enjoy native foods in nearby restaurants, or relax in the wide selection of resorts and spas.

5. Mt. Apo

Mt. Apo, which is 2,954 meters above sea level, is the highest peak in the Philippines. It is also referred to as the Grandfather of the mountains in the Philippines because it is the highest volcano and mountain in this country.

coastal lagoon in Philippine

coastal lagoon in Philippine

This island is the remaining coastal periphery of mangroves, salt marshes and multifarious biodiversity in this part of the Philippines. It also serves as a refuge for 80 species of birds including the Black-crowned Night Heron, the endangered Chinese Egret, Philippine Duck and the rare Pied Avocet. It was declared as a critical habitat in 2007.
In the midst of chaotic urbanization and rapid environmental depletion in the cities of Las Pinas and Paranaque lies a sanctuary for local and migratory birds, namely, Freedom Island and Long Island or collectively known as FREEDOM ISLANDS. But its name is a paradox of its whole story.

Kitesurfing Spots in the Philippines

Kitesurfing Spots in the Philippines

The Philippines is a paradise for Kitesurfing: consistent trade winds, warm waters all year round, 7107 Islands, countless beaches and beautiful tropical nature. Kitesurfing or kiteboarding is a surface water sport combining wakeboarding, windsurfing, surfing, and acrobatics into one extreme sport. It is a lot of fun to use the traction of a huge kite to propel yourself through the water. But you don’t just glide across the surface. You can do stunts in the air as well, such as grabs, board offs or any kind of wakeboard move. Think Iron Man Silver Surfer and Spiderman stunts combined.
The kitesurfing craze in the Philippines started more than a decade ago on Boracay Island. Boracay is a little white-sand island. It has changed from an insiders’ tip kiting spot to an internationally known one, that can get crowded at times. Known as one of the best beaches in the world, and the Philippines’ claim-to-fame, Boracay has it all: white sand, turquoise water, breath-taking sunset, world-class hotels, and an exciting night life.

Banaue Rice Terraces

Banaue Rice Terraces

These ancient terraces are 2,000-years old, and were carved into the mountains of Ifugao in the Philippines by ancestors of the Batad indigenous people. Such rice terraces are commonly referred to by Filipinos as the "Eighth Wonder of the World".

It is believed that the terraces were built mostly by hand, with minimal equipment used. They are located about 1,500 meters (or 5,000 feet) above sea level and cover more than 10,000 square kilometers
